Parkers Crossroads Battlefield to Host Dr. Lonnie Maness For a Free Lecture & Discussion of “Forrest’s First West Tennessee Campaign – December 1862”

The Parkers Crossroads Battlefield Association and Humanities Tennessee are pleased to sponsor a lecture and discussion, entitled “Forrest’s First West Tennessee Campaign – December 1862,” featuring Dr. Lonnie E. Maness. The lecture will detail General Nathan Bedford Forrest’s foray into west Tennessee and it being the forerunner of what became known in World War II as “blitzkrieg,” or lightening warfare.  Forrest’s cavalry concentrated its attack on selected targets and moved rapidly behind enemy lines to confound and avoid major confrontations with large hostile forces.  Dr. Maness will utilize his extensive knowledge in discussing this campaign into western Tennessee and Kentucky.

Immediately following the lecture, State Representative and battlefield historian Steve McDaniel will host a short walking tour of the battlefield, highlighting locations significant to the battle.

The event, free to the public, will be held in the Parkers Crossroads City Park Activities Building.  Parkers Crossroads City Park is located on highway 22 north, ½ mile north of 1-40 at exit 108.   For more information, contact the Parkers Crossroads Visitors Center at 731-968-1191
